    The Solaris 10 8/11 (Update 10) patchset is now available from My Oracle Support (MOS). While these patchsets will bring all pre-existing packages up to the same software level as the corresponding Solaris Update, it is important to know that, as the blog points out, applying the patchset is not the same as upgrading to the Solaris Update release, as the patchset will not include any new packages introduced in the Solaris Update or any obsolete packages deleted in the Update.

    Among the many announcements from Oracle at JavaOne 2011 was the news that JavaFFX 2.0 is now available. JavaFX 2.0 is an advanced Java user interface (UI) platform for enterprise business applications and the next step in the evolution of Java as a premier rich client platform. Oracle also announced their intention to submit a proposal to open source the JavaFX platform as a new project within the OpenJDK Community. Oracle intends to initially contribute the JavaFX UI controls and related libraries; other JavaFX components are planned to follow in multiple phases.

  • Oracle Increases Investment in Java ME

    Oracle has outlined its plans for the further evolution of the Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME)through the submission of new Java Specification Requests (JSRs) to the Java Community Process (JCP). As a result Oracle and members of the Java community will submit new JSRs for Java ME 7 and begin development within the JCP, among them an update to the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) virtual machine and library specifications to enable better alignment with Java Development Kit (JDK) 7.
